BIWPA Academy in Greece

The Academy team, led by Quim and Yuri Colet, will try to improve last year’s fourth place.

For the second time in a row, a team formed by BIWPA Academy athletes will participate in the Chatzitheodorou International Water Polo Tournament in Vouliagmeni (Greece), for athletes aged 15 and under. After a great performance in last year’s edition, finishing in fourth place, the BIWPA team travels to Greece feeling confident to improve last year’s result.

The event is organized by NC Vouliagmeni and will see the participation of renowned teams from all over Europe, such as Olympiacos, Partizan, and Panathinaikos among others. The ten squads taking part have been divided into two groups of five. The format of the competition is simple; the group stage will take place from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th, where each team will play 4 games. The final 1st – 4th placements will be held on Sunday 29th starting at 19h, later followed by the closing ceremonies starting at 21h.

The BIWPA expedition, led by Sports Manager Quim Colet and Academy Head Coach Yuri Colet, will face four Greek teams in the group stage: Panathinaikos, Ethnikos, AOP Faliro and one of the two host teams, Vouliagmeni Red. The BIWPA team consists of 7 Academy student athletes who are currently enrolled in the full program. The rest of the team is completed by players from several Spanish teams, as well as former participants from BIWPA Camps or other activities organized by BIWPA.

In the 2016 edition of the international tournament, the BIWPA team played a great role, being kicked out in the semifinals by the champion, Savona, by just a two-goal difference.

This kind of initiatives are proposed by the BIWPA Academy staff as a complementary work for the members of the Academy, so that they gain experience in international tournaments and have the opportunity also to put into practice everything that they’ve been practicing at the Academy. In addition, we would also like to thank several clubs for collaborating with some of their players: CN Catalunya, CN Rubí, CN Barcelona, CN Sant Feliu, CN Poble Nou, CN Olot.
