The agreement between BIWPA and the South American Swimming Confederation brings online teaching to water polo in the area

Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) and the South American Swimming Confederation (CONSANAT) join forces to deliver training and education for all water polo coaches in South America.

They have designed an online program with courses ranging from initiation to high-performance. All courses are accredited by the CONSANAT and will include an official certification upon completion. The contents will be taught by coaches with longstanding expertise in the field.

"The BIWPA-CONSANAT partnership unifies the training for coaches in South America under a same methodology," says Quim Colet, BIWPA's sports director.

The program is already consolidated in Spain and has proven successful both nationally and internationally. "One of the great steps forward in Spanish water polo has been precisely focusing on the training of our coaches," Colet says.

"It is a pleasure and an honor to partner with BIWPA," says Juan Carlos Orihuela, president of the CONSANAT. "We know the prestige and level of BIWPA within the world of water polo, which will be of great help to all our members and friends in the American continent."

Building the future

The main objective of the collaboration is to promote the development of water polo in South America from the base.

Daniel Poggi is one of the key figures in the project. The coach of Argentina men's national water polo team firmly believes in the need to impact on the youth age groups.

According to Poggi, "this academic training brings all the experience of the European water polo to the region, in particular a successful model that has produced titles for Spain, thanks to the training methodology and a great work at the high-performance centers."

"It is essential for coaches to have a good education and training by gaining the theoretical and practical tools to be able to develop the water polo players of the future.", Colet adds.

Training for all levels

Although the first course available will be for beginners, in the coming months more courses will be released focused on development, technification, and high-performance.

Under the technical direction of Quim Colet, coach of CN Sabadell men's water polo, the courses will be given by coaches and teachers of the highest level.

This is the case of Ferran Plana, currently director of methodology at CN Sabadell and one of the key figures in the training program for coaches at the Catalan Federation (Spain); Yurema Sabio, PhD in physical education with a decade teaching in Spain; and Daniel Poggi, graduate and professor in physical education and head of the diploma of national water polo coach at the Instituto Universitario YMCA.

The first level available will be Unit I, aimed at all people from the aquatic world who are looking to immerse themselves into the world of water polo coaching or are just starting.

Anyone interested in the courses can sign up for a free pre-course information webinar that will take place in the coming weeks. For the moment, the courses will be only available in Spanish.
