Quim Colet to leave Sabadell at the end of the season to lead BIWPA’s Sports Direction

Following recent reports regarding Quim Colet and his continuity at Club Natació Sabadell, BIWPA considers it appropriate to provide context and clarify the situation.

BIWPA would like to emphasize that this is an exclusively personal and professional decision made by Quim Colet, carefully considered and taken at the beginning of the current season.

After eight seasons leading the men's professional water polo team, the coach has decided to close this chapter and begin a new phase in his career.

In Quim Colet's own words:

"This is a personal and professional decision that I have carefully reflected on. Coaching at the elite level has been my life for many years, but I feel the time has come to step aside from the bench and begin a new stage focused on BIWPA's sports direction.
The project is growing rapidly, and I want to dedicate all my energy to its development, creating opportunities for players and continuing to contribute to water polo from a different perspective.
I take so much with me from my time in Sabadell, but I approach this new challenge with excitement and a strong ambition to build something meaningful."

European title and elite competitive performance

During his time at Club Natació Sabadell, Colet led one of the most competitive periods in the club's recent history, establishing the team among the top sides in Spanish water polo and competing at the highest level against the dominant force of the past decades, Atlètic-Barceloneta, while also positioning the team among Europe's elite.

Under his leadership, the team achieved two historic milestones: winning the Spanish Super Cup in 2020 and, most notably, securing the club's first-ever men's European title with the Euro Cup in 2022.

Additionally, in the 2022–2023 season, the team completed an outstanding regular league campaign, finishing undefeated and in first place, reflecting the consistency and high competitive standard reached under his leadership.

Moving forward, he will take on a central role at BIWPA, leading:

  • Global sports direction
  • The development of the BIWPA Academy
  • The international expansion of programs and partnerships

Through this statement, BIWPA aims to avoid any misinterpretation and highlight that this decision is solely the result of Quim Colet's professional evolution.
