Aimed at children between 7 and 12 years old, the water polo school will take place at the Bernat Picornell pools

Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) has launched a water polo school for young age groups (U10 and U12). The project is developed by Barcelona Waterpolo Club, BIWPA's water polo club.

The school, named HaBaWaBa Barcelona School, follows the same philosophy as the famous international water polo Festival based in Italy.

This is the first time that a water polo school embraces the HaBaWaBa brand and, with it, its ideals: The promotion of water polo among the youngest and the teaching of positive values.

The training sessions will take place at the iconic Bernat Picornell swimming pools, where kids have not yet had the opportunity to learn water polo so far. Another objective of the HaBaWaBa School is to offer access to water polo to more neighborhoods and areas in Barcelona.

Water polo and English

With BIWPA's Sports Director and Head Coach of CN Sabadell Quim Colet overseeing the methodology, the school will kick off with coach Sarah Lizotte leading the training sessions. The professional player from California, with more than five years of experience in Spain, is currently captain of CE Mediterrani and competing at the highest level.

Besides, the little water polo players will have the chance to speak English and Spanish, as the sessions will be run in both languages.

Lizotte is approaching the endeavor with great enthusiasm: "I am looking forward to being a part of the first project at BIWPA that allows children the opportunity to learn water polo from such an early age. Of course, being able to introduce the English language to the sessions will be a plus".

"The methodology is very similar to what we do at the Academy, but obviously adapted to each training level and stage. We want kids to learn the fundamentals and basic technical aspects through the game, always keeping the HaBaWaBa values in mind", Quim Colet stated.

Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm at the Bernat Picornell pools in Montjuic, Barcelona.
