"BIWPA's summer high performance water polo program designed for athletes wishing to take their game to the next level"

The Summer Academy is a high performance water polo program that follows the same methodology and training method than the annual program at the BIWPA Academy.  

The sports program is led by 2x Olympic coach Quim Colet and challenges athletes with two sessions in the pool and one gym/conditioning session every day. The program focuses on individual skills, technique/tactics and also includes real game situations and scrimmages with local club teams.

Venues

Even though Sabadell is our main hub, athletes have the chance to train once or twice a week at the iconic Olympic pools of Montjuïc

Three weeks available, 2 weeks required. Sports program is from Monday to Friday, arrival Sunday, departure Saturday.

A training methodology for high-performance water polo, executed by most of the Spanish water polo players with international projection.

All included

Private transportation, lodging and full board. Athletes only have to focus on water polo and make the most of the experience.

Led by 2x Olympic coach Quim Colet, our Academy coaches have experience, skill and a high-level background.

Scrimmages with local clubs

Together with the individual technical and tactical work, athletes compete in weekly scrimmages with local club teams.

Accommodation

Hotel Verdi | Sabadell, Barcelona

Athletes stay in double rooms at a conveniently located four-star hotel within a 15-minute walk of Club Natació Sabadell, and their package includes all three meals.

Summer Academy or summer camp?

While our summer camps offer the best balance between fun and water polo fundamentals, the Summer Academy follows a demanding and immersive training program designed to get the most out of every athlete. At the Summer Academy you can get a taste of our high performance annual water polo program.

A Typical Day

Tentative schedule

  • Pool time - Afternoon practice (2.30PM - 4:00PM)
  • Strength and conditioning session (4:00PM - 5:00PM)

Sports Program Mo - Fri (by BIWPA)
625 € / week (3-week package: 1815€ –includes a 60€ discount)
Minimum 2 weeks required; arrival Sun, departure Sat

Lodging at 4-star Hotel Verdi (Full Board, Individual/Double Rooms)
810 € / week per person (Sun - Sat)
Includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, 24/7 supervision, AC, fridge and Wi-Fi

Medical Insurance (mandatory)
55 € (one-time payment) for the entire program duration

Airport Transfer (optional)

About the admission process

Please note that all athletes applying for the Summer Academy have to attach a link with video highlights including (at least) the following aspects:

Basic techniques

  • Freestyle, head up-top speed 25m (driving the ball)
  • Vertical shot blocking position
  • Vertical shooting position w ball-add faking
  • Reverse skulling w/ hip displacement (back pedal)
  • Passing while facing goal, from position 2 and 4

Game situations

  • Offense shooting/passing
  • Exclusion drawn
  • Counter attack goal or assist
  • Specific defense (press/zone, set defense)
  • 6 on 5 goals/assists (specific positions)
  • 5 on 6 defensive displacements
